MNV08: Mi travesía en Second Life / My journey in Second Life

Se ha iniciado el curso Teaching and learning with MUVEs, de MUVEnation, y ello me hace reflexionar sobre mi actividades en Second Life. <

Apenas hace un año, un amigo me envió un link de una tertulia sobre mundos virtuales en Second Life. Confieso que ni siquiera sabía lo que eran, por lo que decidí acudir. Me registré a última hora, en Second Spain porque los tutoriales eran en español, y sabiendo lo mínimo conseguí llegar al Auditorio de Novatierra. Las primeras filas estaban llenas, subí las escaleras y quedé de espaldas. Sabia que si me daba la vuelta me caía y si retrodecía topaba con otro avatar que subía tras de mi. Azorada, y sin saber como pedir ayuda, seguí hasta arriba y me quedé de espaldas.

En aquel momento vi que en la pantalla me nombraban y me decía que podía sentarme. Había descubierto el chat escrito. Respondí diciendo que no sabía como y a partir de ahí supe que todo sería fácil. Leifert me explicó como sentarme, como levantarme, como moverme, cómo pedir y aceptar amistad, cómo utilizar el chat de voz, cómo pedir ayuda y, sobre todo, me explicó que hay una serie de personas (los llaman Oficiales) que están allí para ayudarte.

Durante unos meses, mi única actividad en Second Life era participar de las Tertulias de Novatierra, todos los viernes a las 13.00h. No sentí curiosidad por explorar otros lugares o por hablar con otra gente. Tenía poco tiempo y ello me bastaba.

Sin embargo, en mayo, se inició el Congreso Internet en el Aula y dentro de él se abrió un grupo en Ning sobre Second Life. Esta vez no lo dudé y participé en todas las sesiones y en todas las actividades. Se hizo un taller de construcción de un planetario, otro de diseño y creación de camisetas, un taller de gestualidades, una visita al Museo Van Gogh en la que pudimos interactuar con los cuadros, ... Ello me abrió un mundo de posibilidades.

La primera plasmación fue la creación de la sede de Connectivitas, un pequeño grupo creado el 27 de junio pasado que tenía, por aquel entonces unos 20 miembros. No la construímos nosotros. Fue obra de Cabans y otros amigos.

Teníamos previsto organizar un ciclo de conferencias. La primera de ellas con George Siemens, pero el número de integrantes del grupo ya era de 120 y en nuestra sede no cabíamos. En esta ocasión Yago nos ofreció utilizar el recién creado auditorio de Uni-Hispana, con una capacidad para 230 personas, y Buenafuente Yao quien controló tecnicamente el evento.

El próximo lunes, día 17 de noviembre, organizaremos nuestro segundo evento. Será en el mismo sitio, y esta vez con Stephen Downes como ponente.

Has begun the course Teaching and Learning with MUVEs of MUVEnation, and this makes me think about my activities in Second Life.

Barely a year ago, a friend sent me a link to a discussion about virtual worlds in Second Life. I confess that did not even know what they were, so I decided to go. I checked in at the last minute, in Second Spain because the tutorials were in Spanish. I knew little, but managed to get to Novatierra Auditorium. The first rows were occupied. I got the stairs but he could not sit.Embarrassed and without knowing how to ask for help, I stayed motionless.

At that moment I saw on the screen to a person told me that he could sit. Had discovered the chat writing. Immediately, I asked for help. Leifert explained to me as sit, like getting up, as a move, how to seek and accept friendship, how to use the voice chat, how to seek help and, above all, I explained that there are a number of people (call them officers) who are there for help.

For a few months, my only activity in Second Life was part of the Gatherings of Novatierra, every Friday at 13.00. I did not feel curious to explore other locations or by talking to other people. He had little time and I am enough.

However, in May, began the Congress Internet en el Aula and inside it opened a group on Ning in Second Life. This time do not hesitate and took part in all meetings and in all activities. It was a workshop for the construction of a planetarium, another of designing and creating of the shirts, a gestural workshop, a visit to the Van Gogh Museum in which we interact with the paintings, ... So I opened a world of possibilities.

The first realization was the establishment of the headquarters of Connectivitas, a small group created on June 27. Cabans and other friends built headquarters.

We had planned to organize a series of lectures. The first one with George Siemens, but we had capacity for 40 people and the group grew to 120 members. On this occasion Yago offered us use the auditorium of the Uni-Hispana, with a capacity for 230 people, and Buenafuente Yao who technically controlled the event.

The next Monday, November 17, we will organize our second event. It will be on the same site, and this time with Stephen Downes as a speaker.
